So I just got back from New York. I went there to try out for the Bravo channel reality show "Work of Art; The Next Great Artist". I spent the last few weeks and several hundred dollars putting together my portfolio, filling out there twenty three page application, and getting airfare to New York. I was fortunate that my college roommate lives in Brooklyn just a fifteen minute walk from the Brooklyn museum where the casting call was held so I didn't have to get a hotel room for the weekend. I arrived at the museum at 7:30 am and found myself one hundred and twenty third in line; they would start at 10am. By the time they started there had to be over a thousand people in line wrapping themselves around the building and down the block out of site. I can't say how the interview process went, I signed a document saying I wouldn't. Suffice to say, if you didn't hear back from them by 10pm that night, you weren't getting one the show.
I didn't get a call. I guess my work and talent aren't good enough for them. Oh well, I had to try, and if the show continues, I might try again, I just need to step things up a bit. Maybe my work really isn't good enough. Maybe I'm missing something important. I know my work is beautiful
for the most part. But does it say anything, and I don't just mean in a narrative sort of way.
Let me pose a few questions to you, my watchers, and I want you to be honest. What do you think of my work? What do you feel is missing? Or what do you think isn't missing from some of my work but is from others?
I don't know. Any advice you might have in an artistic way would be appreciated.
If you have read this, meaning you are still watching me. I thank you for your continued support over the last few years.
On a lighter note, I have two pieces going in to an art show this November in uptown Dallas at the PCPC artfest. I uploaded one a week or two ago, and will be uploading the other shortly.
And don't forget, if you want some of my work, or know someone who does or even might, please. My work is for sale, and while much of my work has sold, I still have many pieces available, and I'm always up for commissions.
